You define the destination.

We help you get there.

A successful therapy journey looks different for each individual. At Lantern, we engage in therapeutic relationships without preconceived notions of what the outcome should look like. We help you define wellness on your terms – whether that relates to relationships, work, finances, grief, insecurities, health, or beyond – and then join you along a personalized journey.

A human-centered approach

The care we provide is rooted in a deep respect for the humanity and uniqueness of each person. That’s why it’s so important for us to understand you in the context of where you’re coming from, how you perceive yourself, and how you feel you fit into the world.

Here, your wholeness is greater than the sum of your parts.

Our Process

Lantern Behavioral Health creates a therapeutic environment for you as an individual, or together with your partner, to explore, process, and transition out of difficult life experiences to a place of greater well-being. Lantern is a Massachusetts-based private practice, and presently works with clients through video appointments.

Who we work with:

Dr. Shimrit Black

Founder of Lantern Behavioral Health

Respected by colleagues, peers, and clients alike, Dr. Shimrit Black is a clinical psychologist who approaches therapeutic care with equal parts empathy, directness, and action. This mindset, and the relationship with clients, has resulted in meaningful and sustainable improvements to the quality of life for individuals and couples across all backgrounds, life challenges, and psychological circumstances.

Prior to leading Lantern, Dr. Black was an Assistant Clinical Director of a large outpatient mental health clinic within the VA Boston Healthcare System, where she provided clinical care to United States military veterans with a variety of complex presenting conditions. In addition to her administrative responsibilities and direct patient care roles, Dr. Black held faculty appointments at both Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Black has provided advanced training to countless psychology and psychiatry trainees in evidence-based psychotherapy approaches for individuals and couples. Dr. Black earned her doctoral degree from Temple University and completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship in the Boston VA Healthcare System.

Through Lantern, Dr. Black can apply wisdom gained from more than a decade of patient care, organizational leadership, and research directly to her work – helping people through their most pressing challenges.

Accessible care, from anywhere

Lantern’s psychotherapy services are offered remotely via a HIPAA-compliant, secure, and easy-to-use telehealth platform. Clients may log in to the platform to join their session, reschedule an appointment, pay for the services they receive, and more. In-person therapy is not available currently.

Offering remote care allows us to:

Help patients from the privacy of their preferred space

May eliminate some access-to-care barriers

Reduce commute, time burden, and inconvenience

Payment

Currently, we accept private pay through a secure payment platform. Dr. Black is not contracted  with any insurance providers, therefore services are considered out-of-network. Many clients are able to make use of out-of-network benefits to receive insurance reimbursement for a portion of session costs.

As a patient, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the cost of non-emergency medical services. For more details, click here.
